Dr. Rafea Naffa is a renowned biochemist with over 35 peer-reviewed publications, primarily focused on collagen. He has a strong academic background, having earned his PhD from Massey University and serving as an editor and reviewer for several scientific journals. Dr. Naffa is a skilled project manager and scientist with expertise in agilePM, Prince2, and protein quality. As Chief Scientific Officer at Keraplast, he leads R&D innovation and ensures it aligns with company goals. His research has significantly improved export-grade hides and derived products.

Session 2: Feiolix: A Feijoa Fruit Powder with GLP-1 Inducing Pathways and Applications in Menopause

Prior research has shown Feiolix is effective for supporting healthy weight, blood sugar and other metabolic markers. Feiolix is rich in complex prebiotics (mainly xyloglucans) and abscisic acid, which stimulate GLP-1 release via two different pathways. During this presentation we will discuss these pathways for satiety/weight management, metabolic regulation and the link to menopausal symptom relief. Marine collagen under the Naticol brand from Weishardt, has been widely used in beauty from within products. Now thanks to a unique process generating high amount of bioactive tri-peptides, Naticol x3Peptide is available.  Pre-clinical results will be explained showing improved bioavailability of Naticol x3Peptide in skin and joints and optimized bioactivity using anti- and pro-inflammatory markers in skin and joint cells.  Very promising results extracted from a recent clinical study will also be presented.

Pascale Robert-Jolimaître, who holds a PhD in Chemistry, joined the Weishardt team in 2005. She is currently the General Manager responsible for Quality and R&D. She also leads the Scientific Department, overseeing the implementation and communication of all scientific studies aimed at demonstrating the bioactivity of Weishardt’s fish collagen peptides, NATICOL®.

Holixer™, a new age adaptogen derived from the revered Ayurvedic herb Ocimum tenuiflorum (Holy Basil), offers a new approach to stress and sleep management. In the recent interim analysis Holixer™ demonstrated significant impact on sleep quality at a microarchitecture level using nocturnal polysomnography and actigraphy. This is the first study that used polysomnography to study the benefits of an herbal extract on sleep microarchitecture.

Dr. Bharathi Bethapudi works at R&D at Natural Remedies Pvt Ltd Bangalore, India. She is a postgraduate in Pharmacology & Toxicology discipline and is a board-certified toxicologist from American Board of Toxicology (ABT). Bharathi’s key research interests include clinical and pre-clinical research, new product developments for the supplements/nutraceuticals. She has additional interests in global regulatory issues pertinent to botanicals. Over a decade she has published her research in peer reviewed research journals and authored book chapters on herbal extracts.

Session 7: New Plant Based GOS, With clinical support for Adults & Infants

AlphaGOS® is a unique, patented pea based GOS prebiotic.  This session will review the key in vitro and vivo studies that support its roles for prebiotic benefits, which led to reduced appetite, food intake, and inflammation in overweight adults. These studies suggest that AlphaGOS® may promote long-term weight loss and mitigate metabolic disorders. AlphaGOS® was also shown to exert prebiotic effects in infant microbiota, similar to that of beta-GOS and superior to that observed with inulin or Human Milk Oligosaccharide (2-fucosyl-lactose).

Jennifer Gu, PhD, Vice President of Research & Development, AIDP, Inc.

Dr. Gu received her PhD in Experimental Pathology at the University of California, Los Angeles and completed her post-doctoral work at the California Institute of Technology in the Division of Biology.  Dr. Gu published extensively in peer-reviewed journals including “Nature” during her academic life. Dr. Gu holds multiple patents and is a frequent speaker and contributor to nutritional journal articles.
